What is the healthier option
I want to get your opinions on what is the healthier option in cooking.
Would you use margarine, butter or olive oil as an alternative?
I currently use olive oil.

There are basic differences in these products based on the levels of saturated versus unsaturated fats that are in each product. Typically speaking, animal fats like butter are more saturated and are not as healthy as the plant-based oils. Oils are more highly unsaturated. These are healthier options when cooking. The margarine will likely have around 14 grams of fat per serving and this includes around 2-3 grams of saturated fats and about 6 grams of monounsaturated fats and about 6 grams of polyunsaturated fats. The olive oil has a higher amount of monounsaturated fats. Read your label and you will see this to be true. Overall, oils and plant-derived triglycerides are healthier for you. I, however, love to cook and sometimes you can not beat the flavor of real butter. Moderation is the key in those instances. I hope this has been helpful. I am a biology teacher and have just finished teaching these same concepts to my students!SarkeyNZ wrote:Hi all
