What is ‘women’s fiction’?

I’ve seen some books tagged #women’s fiction. I’m wondering what YOU think qualifies a book for that title? Do you like categorizing books that- why or why not?

I’d love to hear a variety of viewpoints!

Good question! I think it generally refers to books that are about female characters or issues. I also wonder if this makes sense.

Mmm. I generally don't like it as a means of categorisation because it's so broad, but on a specific level, it does help me choose books that cater to a female point of view, both in terms of characters and content. I don't think I'd read quite so varied a range of books without it as I do with it.

I perceive "women's fiction" as fiction written by female-identifying people. I feel that this type of fiction typically has more complex female characters. However, I think it can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of gender.
