I wholeheartedly recommend reading the brilliant Cunt: A Declaration of Independence by Inga Muscio. She discusses the attitudes society/men/women themselves have towards the female reproductive system and how that influences women's relationships with their own bodies. She also does an excellent job, in my opinion, of proposing ways for women to reclaim their feminine power by transforming our culture from within. In other words, not only does she describe the problems, she offers some solutions.
