I would definitely become depressed as well! And probably go insane for a little bit. But I don't think I would be the worst one in the world suffering from withdrawals, so I could probably snap out of it. I hope.

I love this question and everyone's thoughts to this. I would be right with everyone in the underground book trade. I would love to read a novel that was all about this so someone please write it!

Has anyone seen Equilibrium?
That's what this question makes me think of.
All emotions are illegal and people are givin medication to surpress them.
Art, music, everything worthwhile, is distroyed.

It's a very interesting movie.

Well, other than the obvious Fahrenheit 451 reference, I think a lot of people, including me would be very disappointed. I know that in todays day and age, many people are switching to eReaders, but I will never be satisfied with only that. I do have a Kindle myself, but I still would prefer to hold the book in my hand, to make the center crease in the binding, to dog ear the pages, and too see the cover every time I pick up the book. The experience is not the same with my Kindle. If the government decided to burn books, my first reaction would be confusion. Print media is something that can be traced back thousands of years, wether is be in a book or carved onto a cave wall. Books are our past, present, and future. I would curl into a ball and cry if I could never hold a book with fresh pages in my hand again.

Well lucky for us there is no fear for that ever happening, and there is no way to burn ebooks, so there will be allways something to read!!

I will write short ones in pen and paper and wrap them in soft tissue paper and raffia, give it as a gift to those I love and any stranger that needs motivation, inspiration, love and care! I will write a short book as a personal gift and hope they will find the value in it and if it encouraged them, hopefully they will pass it on so the next person could find some hope and upliftment ... if there weren't any books to read! I suppose that is why I haven't written any yet, there is so many out there already, but since I have just read "Unleash your potential beyond just motivation"by Abegunde Sunday O. - I do believe it will be a valuable and worthwhile and unique contribution to people, if I would start to write and contribute to the books out there! I do have value and my life counts, so I do have books to write. (Positive Mentality).

Well if you are talking paper books disappearing I could deal, but if ebooks disappeared at the same time... I guess if I had enough warning I would download as many things as I could to the device and be okay for years if not the rest of my life.

Make some! As long as there is paper or laptop, literature can still flourish! I doubt the government could trace every thing ever written. Though, using electrical things would probably be more risky -- I'd probably stick to paper and pen. Then again, if a thing went viral and could be downloaded and sent on continuously then I doubt it would be retrievable. So literature will always exist in some form! You know, if this really were possible then I think we'd probably go back to oral composition and transition. The government couldn't possibly control the transmission of texts then unless they cut off everybody's tongue, which is just absurd. Even then, there's sign language. Which means that they'd have to cut off everybody's hands, which isn't very practical, is it?

Am I over-thinking this? :D

I'd be very sad. I'd probably join the Underground Railroad for books.

And then this made me think of the Uglies series for some reason! I wonder if the Pretties had books to read?

If books were banned and burned (shudder), then I suppose readers would become storytellers and listeners. Oral narratives would once again become predominant.

I would become a criminal!!! They cannot take my books away from me without a fight!!! I'd probably end up in jail eventually, but it would be for a worthy cause, and I'm quite certain that I would be in good company 8)
