Fiction Set in Your Town - Which Author Writes Best?

Post by history100 »

I love to read books that are rich with local detail and insight. There is something special about blending a good work of fiction with the real feel of local culture.

I'm in Minnesota. For me there is no one better than John Sanford. His books describe days so cold you can't hold a gun and a murder scene so real that I couldn't park in that U of MN parking lot for two years after reading Shadow Prey.

Which author is the best at capturing the sights and sounds of your community? Which author should I read if I really want to immerse myself in your local customs and culture? Any genre is welcome. Who do you recommend and why?
