The Great American Read

Post by Dael Reader »

PBS has released its list of 100 most-loved books as part of its Great American Read series. Have you seen the list yet? If not check it out here: https://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/books/#/

How many have you read? Are there some books you think shouldn't be on the list? And which book will you vote for as your favorite?

I've read 53. And there were a few I couldn't believe were on the list. I thought The Shack was a horrible book, because it was poorly written and it basically turned the Holy Trinity into a caricature. I wouldn't consider the Twilight series or Flowers in the Attic to be "great" reads. But than, the PBS designation names these as "most-loved," not "best modern literature." So to each his own.

Of those included on the list, the one that I would pick as my most favorite is A Prayer for Owen Meaning. I wish East of Eden by Steinbeck had been added to the list instead of Grapes of Wrath. I would have voted for the former, no contest.
