I agree with Stephen King and Mitch Albom being overrated. Can't think of any underrated at the moment.

Overrated: Stephen King

Underrated: Certain amateur authors that have their amazing original works published online.

I've read countless books, published and unpublished, and I noticed that the unpublished ones' contents have more... 'freedom' to express their plot.

Overrated: The person who wrote the '50 shades' books, can't remember the name but wow, bad. Also, I agree with all of you who are saying Stephanie Meyer.

Underrated: Iain Rob Wright - I enjoyed every single one of his books, he writes horror but they'e all so unique and I love his writing style!

Overrated:
John Green. His writing is formulaic and feels emotionally manipulative, if not downright disrespectful. (Anne-Frank house kissing scene from The Fault in Our Stars)

Underrated:
Elliot Wake-- formerly Leah Raeder. His writing is lush, his characters breathe, and he is a brilliant story-teller. He writes gracefully and with complexity.

Overrated:
Stephanie Meyer. I tried to read her books, but they turned out to be incredibly boring and sugary. I really do not understand how someone can read them.

Underrated:
Barbara Hambly. Her books are written in excellent language. Her "Dragon's Bane" is one of my favorite fantasy books.
