Post by Snowhite189 »

So I want to ask you guys what's your favorite to read when you were young.

The original Grimm’s Fairy Tales are the best (rather than the Disney versions). They are very dark for young children, however. Of course, I grew up on Mother Goose, and she’s pretty gruesome as well when you know the history. Aesop’s Fables are also a great read for kids.

Yes, I read a lot of fairy tales when I was a child and still reading at times. I just enjoy the impossible and illogical contents sometimes.
A joke is to entertain people. If it fails to do so, it's something else!

I read lots of fairy tales growing up! I remember in primary school going and reading the original versions (which tended to be rather disturbing) and went through a phase in high school of reading 'modern fairy tales'.

One of my favorite books to this day is called Poison by Chris Wooding, which is a beautiful novel that follows the path of a fairy tale while questioning the logic behind the story style. Holly Black also had written a trilogy that still sits on my shelf consisting of Tithe, Valiant and Ironside that explore celtic faerie lore existing in the modern world. Both books are YA but I would recommend them to anyone above the age of 16.

Oh yes! I always read the original Grimm's fairy tales and Hans Christian Anderson. I thought Grimm's fairy tales were a tad bit gruesome but I never paid much attention as a kid. Now, I realize how twisted the end of Snow White was and a few other tales as well.

My mum always used to read fairy tales to me before bedtime. I think this must have made me into a big reader. I still like reading fairy tales though as I feel like they're basics.

I loved reading Fairy tales when I was young. My father would often read Greek myths to me and my mom would read from this old green book with various fables and fairy tales in it. I think that my parents really influenced my love for books. They read to both me and my brother when we were small. When I grew older, I would always read a book before bed. for a long time, I couldn't sleep well if I didn't read a book before. This changed in college as my sleeping schedule was disrupted and I often fell asleep studying at 2am. lol

My parents read fairy tales and myths to me too. I liked "The Snow Queen", "Wild Swans" and some other fairy tales.

What do you mean, when I was young? I still do! Although I will say I like reading fairy tales from other cultures now too.

Yes, I did! I absolutely loved them and stilll do. I once had a collection of older fairy tales that I sadly cannot find anymore, but I want to buy another and enjoy them again.
