Do you re-read books in favor of starting new books?

I definitely have books I read over and over again. Many times I would rather read a well-known book that start a new book I've never read before. Anyone else do this?

All the time! Some books are too amazing to only read once. Plus, when I'm in a bad mood, why risk a bad book on top of it? Everyone will feel my wrath if the characters annoy me when I'm already mad. If I'm depressed, I never bother with new books; old comedy favorites only.

I almost always opt for reading a new book over re-reading one. The exception is when my husband and I read together because I'm always excited to share something that's new to him but that I've already read or vice versa!

There are a few favorites that I have read several times. Mostly I tend to read something new though.

I do that a lot and it's mostly because i fear that the new book won't be as interesting or captivating as the one i'm rereading.

For every 1 book that I would like to re-read there are like 10 books that I haven't yet read. So no matter how much I would like to re-read some books until I know them by heart I just never get around doing that.

Whenever I don't feel any satisfaction from the book I'm currently reading, I would re-read a new one that I am sure would give me whatever it is I am missing from the other one.

This depends on my mood. There are some days when you cannot start a new book and just have to reread Pride and Prejudice.

With a couple of notable exceptions, I almost never read a book more than once. I keep the Harry Potter Series and The Lord Of the Rings series in my nightstand for when I don’t have a new book to read.

There are a few of my very favorite books which I have read many times and still keep reading. Although I am a fast reader and go through books at a good pace, sometimes it takes me days to decide on a book to start, even if that book is in my 'to read' list. I guess reading a book calls for the proper mood! But with my most favourite books I never face this problem. I can start re-reading them anytime, and never feel uncomfortable with them, irrespective of my current state of mind.

I do the same too but it is kinda rare. Sometimes I just jump into new territory.

I get caught up in the "should" of reading new books a lot that I'll stop myself from rereading a book even if that's what I feel like reading at the time. I've found that will often cause a reading slump for me because I'm forcing myself to read something other than what I want to read - even if the new book is good! Sometimes you just want to read something comforting and familiar.
