I like both. Some standalone books are great in that form only, while some of them make us wish for a series. On the other hand, a few series seem unnecessary, they could probably have done better as a single book. Also, too long series are not something I like much.

I think I also prefer standalone books; however, if it's one that is really good, the sorrow I feel when it is over is terrible, and I'll wish it was part of a series. There are some series that I love though. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, The Name of the Wind.

I prefer a standalone book. The books in a series are too long for me and I am not very patient to wait for the next series. I enjoy getting the whole thing at a time.

Since I primarily read fantasy and science-fiction novels, I prefer series. They give more insight in the created characters and worlds.

I prefer a series- trilogy or saga. I also prefer television series to movies though, so I guess I just like to spend a lot of time with the characters!

That being said, a lot of my favorite books are standalone novels and I believe they must be more difficult to write.

I think I prefer series more? But really sometimes it just depends on whether I love the book or not.

I love watching a television series, but when it comes to books, I prefer a stand alone. I think it's because the second book of a trilogy can feel like filler before it gets to the action set up in the final book. Other times, it's just for the fact that a series can have up to sixty books, and I feel like if I start something I have to finish it, and I don't know if I will be around to read them all.

For me it definitely depends on what else I've got going on. I prefer a standalone book when I'm busier because I don't want to fight that pull to read the next in a series. On the other hand, I once read the entire Pretty Little Liars series in one week.

I adore series. Fantasy is my fav genre and the beauty of the fantasy is a long series. I prefer series cause i don't want a good book to end so early.

Stand alone books. With series, I feel pressured even before I begin the book. What if I don't like the first one? Now I have to go through with the entire series just to have closure.

Either one really but I probably would go for a stand alone first because if I start reading a series I have to finish reading all of the books even if I don't like it! Fifty shades of grey for example. I'm stubborn haha

Sometimes a book series with over three books can be intimidating to try and commit to. There's just so much there that I feel I will need to get through.

I prefer stand alone.

I prefer standalone books because it is very annoying when one cannot buy the entire series.

It is very hard for me to find standalone books in the fantasy genre. Most of my books end up being series, so I guess I would have to say they are my favorite.

I'm tempted to say standalone, because I don't feel committed to anything and they bring a sense of closure. However I really enjoy some fantasy universes and I long to know more, so I think the ideal for me would be standalone books settled in the same universe with no interaction between one story and the other and with different main characters, but with lots of explanations about the setting
