It really is a pity because good writing should be able to stand alone. But, there's something about the cover that pulls us in or tells us to move on - in the beginning at least.

Agreed. There are so many books in bookstores/libraries that I can't possibly look at all of them. When I find an interesting cover page that pops out to me, I'll actually pick it up and consider the summary or read a few pages to see if it would be a good fit for me. If not, then I'll just put it down and keep looking.Firefawkes wrote: ↑27 Jan 2019, 22:42 I find the cover page determines whether I pick up the book or not, but its the prologue or first couple pages that determine if I'm going to read it!

I guess it affects it a little bit but it's not ultimately the deciding factor.micoleon13 wrote: ↑04 Dec 2017, 14:45 "End of the Last Great Kingdom" has a wonderful cover page and, as someone who isn't a great fan of fantasy, it made me immediately want to read it.
How much do you think the cover page influences your decision on what book to read and does it affect your enjoyment of the book as a whole?
