I just started Heartaches by HM Irwing, and this line greeted me after I downloaded it:

"Anna Walters-Simmons wrinkled her nose in distaste as the strong scent of the freshly brewing storm mingled with the smell of damp earth, freshly tossed."

Very evocative! I'm looking forward to more. :)

Thanks for reminding me I want to read this book. I previewed it in December and will have to read the rest. Are you enjoying it?

Yes, I always enjoy curling up with a book which has such a starting sentence

It allows me to guess the writer will linger over the language and not simply rush ahead into a plot dilemma. Let it breathe!

Very evocative! I'm looking forward to more. :)

Many of my student love Rick Riordan, and I even got a coloring book dedicated to his series, for one student. But I have yet to read him myself: this start sounds promising.
