Husband is a Great Black Belly - 4/5 stars

A cute and sweet modern day, slice of life rom-com where female protagonist falls in love with a black bellied yet perfect boyfriend material male lead. The novel is all from the female protagonist's point of view; it isn't until the very end in the side stories the male lead gets to tell his own story.

I read The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. I gave the book a 4 out of 4 stars. The book was stuffed at a whopping 1200 pages, and yet Sanderson manages to keep the action steady and the reader's eyes firmly glued to the page. A truly excellent book and a fine piece of fantasy literature.

I just finished Social Media Psychobabble: Stop Feeding the Beast.

I rated the book 1 out of 4 stars...hence you're not seeing a published review. :lol2:

The book attempts to decry the use of social media marketing. It is full of logical fallacies, non-referenced "facts," mis-referenced "facts," and citations that lead to non-working sites. In a book where every page was full of at least five to ten citations, it's needless to say my review wasn't pretty.

The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse was a bit of a challenge. There is no question that Hesse's writing is tight, compact and precise, but with little plot,it gets just a tad boring, to be completely truthful.

It is presented as a biography of Joseph Knecht, an elite intellectual in a society committed to the in-depth exploration and interweaving of various branches of arts and sciences in an environment that is well removed from the normal realities of life. Knecht becomes the Magister Ludi of his order, the Master of the Glass Bead Game (which is never fully explained), and he fulfills his role with honour and distinction until the time he realises that there is another world 'out there' that he knows little about, and so he chooses to resign (unheard of behaviour) and try a different lifestyle.

The tone of the book is a cross between academic and religious - the setting sometimes seems like a university and other times like a religious order - and the two become intertwined.

But, overall, I found it just a little long and dry. 3.5 stars out of 5.
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

The last book I read was Beside Myself by Ann Morgan. It was too good!
I read it at a time when I was looking into child psychology and it gave me such a different perspective. I found myself thinking ‘are we the people we are because we were born that way or because of the things we went through?’. It was a fresh take on the nature versus nurture argument. I really loved it, even though the ending wasn’t spectacular.
