Icon What diary-type book have you read?

Post by Thirielle »

Since I love writing on a diary, I surely love reading a diary-type book too. And this book - Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson really made me cry. Like a lot.

It's about Kathy who's boyfriend broke up with her on the night of their first anniversary without her knowing why. After a week I guess, she received a package coming from Matt (her ex who broke up with her). The package only contains one thing - a diary - Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas.

Kathy once found out that Matt's ex-wife's name was Suzzane. Now, she was confused who is Nicholas. She opened the diary and there was a message from Matt on its first page.

The message was about him telling her how he never expect himself to fall in love with her (Kathy) but he really did anyway. Matt also said that the Diary was about him, his wife and his son.

Yes. Nicholas was Matt's son with Suzzane. His wife and son died on an accident.

I really love how James Patterson can put so much emotion on that book that can be felt by the readers.

So, what diary-type book have you read? I wanted to know so I can maybe read it too. :)

Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart

I haven't finished the book, but I can tell you that it's light reading. When you don't feel like dealing with heavy content, try this one.

I've actually been looking for a diary-type book to read. The book that was recommended to me that fits this is "Go Ask Alice." Not sure if I'm going to buy it though.

The Music of Dolphins would be the closest to a diary that I've read.

Vaz222 "Go Ask Alice" is a book i recommend to everyone! Its a harrowing tale of an average simple teen with the normal growing pain every kid goes through. What develops through her journals is a sad yet intriguing tale of how peer pressure can influence and chanve the whole course of ones life if they let it...yes it has drugs and sex involved but i read it in the 7th grade and enjoyed it. I also re read it later in life a few times gaining something more from the text each time. Its a must read!

Off hand, the Diary of Anne Frank is the only one I can think of.

'Diary of Anne Frank' and 'Testament of Youth' by Vera Brittain has diary-type entries since it's her memoir. I have also read Vera Brittain's war diary that she kept.

Puddle Jumping by Amber L. Johnson is kind of written like a diary. The main character tells the story of how she fell in love with an autistic boy. It's a sweet story.

It's a little different, but I recently read Diary by Chuck Palahniuk and really enjoyed it.
It didn't have quite the same tone and style as other books of his I've read.
Almost more of a slightly-supernatural mystery tale, it's written from the perspective of the wife of a building contractor who died and left mysterious messages in houses he was supposed to have remodeled. Weirdness ensues... lol

I definitely want to read Suzanne's Diary. But right now, I can only think of Diary of Anne Frank, like others. There is another on my bookshelf at home, but it's not coming to mind. 🤔🤔

Oooo! Great question! I've read the diary of Samuel Pepys as well as The Real Diary of a Real Boy. Loved them both. The Real Diary of a Real Boy is an actual diary written by Judge Henry Shute when he was a boy in the 1860s. It preserves his boyhood misspellings and all. The judge found it as a middle aged man around the turn of the last century, tucked in an old box with some old fire crackers, nails, and a petrified frog. It's a fascinating and highly amusing glimpse of life in the 1800s.
