Who is your favourite detective character in a book or film?

Post by Vivian Paschal »

Hi there! This is for mystery lovers. My favourite detective character in a book is Hercule Poirot created by Agatha Christie. I think he has a great humour. He's a lot of fun and does well to carry readers and listeners along.
TV, on the other hand hand, is a bit difficult. I can't pick between Sherlock Holmes and Jane Patrick (The Mentalist). Arguably, Jane Patrick is a consultant and not a detective, but he's the one solving the crimes in the series and not actually the police. Anyway, I love that they see and think beyond the ordinary man. I love how they can seem crazy at times. They're a lot alike, though Sherlock is more of a genius than Jane.
What about you? Who's the detective you love more than any other?

My favorite would be Amos Decker. Even though he is an old man, he is still the best for me :)

For movies, Sherlock Holmes, definitely. He balances brilliance with crazy just enough to make it all grand.
For books, Lieutenant Eve Dallas created by J.D.Robb. she is just spectacular.

Mine was the detective in An Inspector Calls. Not sure if that really counts as a detective though. Loved reading that book.

Probably Hercule Poirot. I love thriller books so there are a lot of such characters in my mind.

I’m gonna have to go with Hercule Poirot as well but Miss Marple is fun too. I also love Sherlock Holmes.

Does Flavia de Luce count? Otherwise I'd go with Sherlock Holmes, tv wise I prefer the Jeremy Brett version.

Do Scully and Muelder count? Haha
Otherwise I agree with Hercule Poirot
Sherlock Holmes is classic but overrated imo
