LEGAL sources for FREE books!

Post by CaitlynLynch »

Of course, we all know that Amazon's Top 100 Free lists are a great and constantly changing source, but we also know that the quality of what's on offer there can be wildly variable, as well as not always easy to search. Many authors (me included) give away first in series books as 'lead magnets' to hook readers, but that then involves hunting down individual authors and hoping they might be giving away something you want to read.

So, here's some sources for free (and LEGAL) books you might actually want to read.

Project Gutenberg - the big one. Lots and lots of books out of copyright, including the classics like Austen, Dickens etc.

The Baen Free Library - a SF/F publisher with some big names on their list who give away freebies.

instaFreebie - a lot of authors give away their 'lead magnets' here. A LOT. Including me. You may have to sign up to an author's mailing list to get the book, but you've also then got a fairly good chance of being directed to more free books. Or invited to become an ARC reader. Worst comes to worst, you can always unsubscribe - but please don't mark the author's email as spam, that's horribly rude!

Any more sites for FREE and LEGAL ebooks, please feel free to drop them in the comments below!

A lot of libraries are now letting you borrow ebooks as well. You have to have a membership to your local library, though, usually.

I love bookbub.com. They send you free or seriously discounted books every day (or once a week if you'd rather). I've found SO many awesome books that way! PixelOfInk.com used to be great too. They disappeared for a while but they're back now. I didn't like the new setup of their emails though, so I unsubscribed.

I get mine of Kobo.com as there are authors that put up their books for free. I got my favorite author books there. Some of hers that she put up online as free though I'm wishing to buy her other books

My local library has an Overdrive Catalog and they use an app called Cloud Library both of which accessible with a FREE library card. I believe some libraries have a separate card for e-access. Truly this is the best thing I ever discovered.
