Do you set goals for yourself when reading?

Post by queeennnkatie »

For example, when I read, I always say I'm going to read up to chapter 5 or I'm going to read 100 pages without stopping.
Is this weird? Does anybody else do this?

No, I am not. However, I like to finish the chapter before taking a break.

Yes. When starting a new book I always do the math on how many pages a day I should read to finish it in a timely manner.

I don't. I read on my commute to and from work and so when the train stops, I have to stop, haha. I also read before bed and fall asleep every night mid sentence.

I do, but kind of reverse from what you are discussing.....I only allow myself a certain amount of time to read, x hours/day for example, as otherwise I will get nothing else done!

Yes, because most times when I start to read, it will be right before bed. Sometimes I don't get to my bedroom until 12 midnight or a little later - so I will look for the next 'stopping off' point. I like the fact that some recent books of mine have little stars (*) in them, every couple of pages or so. That way if I'm too tired to tackle a full chapter, I can just read 6-8 pages instead.

No, I'm afraid setting a reading goal might interfere with the journey. I read until I have something else pressing to do or I get to a good stopping point.

If the book is less than 300 pages, I usually like to read the whole book in one day. When I'm in school I usually read during the weekends, but now that school is out, I can read whenever I want to.

Nah that's not weird at all. I don't usually put a lot of pressure on myself cuz reading should be fun most of all. But sometimes I do say to myself, "Ok, you gotta finish this book. Don't be a quitter!" In the past, I would just stop reading a book on a whim---just becuz I found some chapters boring or I was not just "in the mood", etc.

I always set up goals when reading a book.

When i first crack open a book, my goals:
1) Read the first chapter
2) read up to the 5th chapter
3) Read an 1 hour before bedtime
4) Never sleep again LOL :3

Not always, if I enjoy the book then I will read for as long as I have time for it. If it's not something I enjoy, but I have to read it for other purposes (work, study), I make a plan to read a couple of chapters each day depending on the length.

I was never taught how to cook. However, when I left home, I taught myself. Guess how? Library books!

I would loan tons of cookbooks and make Xerox copies of the recipes I liked. Then, I would go to thrift stores and yard sales (still do) and buy cookbooks for a buck or less. I am now married to my crockpot and have occasional flings with the microwave. Being that I work and volunteer, I cannot spend hours cooking with a stovetop and oven.

Anyway, I can now cook and stress-free too. I accomplished what I set out to do.

Good subject!
