2) I also read opinions on Amazon made by readers but often there is at least one idiot in each set of recommendations there who includes spoilers without warnings so I have to be very cautious when reading such reviews.
3) Also, like classicaltwist, if I am in a bookstore and have no other plane of reference I read the blurbs on the book itself to see if this book even comes close to anything that I feel would interest me.

2) I get emails for free books for Kindle and for those I judge by the title and cover if I want to take the time to read the blurb.

Sometimes I just like to take a risk on books...
I am also a sucker for reading books that have very few reviews. Lack of reviews do not mean it is a bad book, just that it hasn't reached many eyes or the right set of eyes. So that triggers me to pick it up and read. This way I sometimes find a gem and a new author I can support in my own small way.
