Reading At Work

Post by SparklingOne »

I had a very slow day at work the other day, decided to read a little since it was overly quiet and all my tasks had been completed. I thought it was no different than people accessing the internet at their desks. Has anyone else done this?

I can't say I have ... but one of my jobs is retail and I think that would be really frowned upon (especially since we recently got a new store manager). My primary job is an office job, and I could certainly read during my lunch hour. Other than that ... I'm not sure. It's a lot easier -- and less noticeable -- to close down an internet window than frantically try to get rid of a book when the boss comes wandering past. :D

I read books all the time with my prior job. Matter of fact the boss even did it so she didn't frown upon reading in the office at all.

When my tasks are complete or if it's a really slow day, I will read at the office. However, I don't really work out front. If I worked more in front of people, it would probably be frowned upon.

I have a book that I usually keep in my purse, that when I have 15 minutes left before the shift ends, I read. I also am lucky I work in a school with a library, so I have access to check out books and read at work when I have downtime.

I read not during the actual work hours, but definitely ensure that I have a book with me for lunch time. I almost always have one with me at work in case I have to commute between some of our variously scattered buildings in the city as well.

Yep. I've done it before, but usually not at my desk or around people, lol.

I used to work in a bank, and there was really only work to do while there were customers (until I later became head teller) but definitely in the winter hours when it seemed slower and longer days.
Now, I'm an accounting manager and there's no time for reading unless it's while I'm on lunch.
Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light. :techie-studyingbrown:

Not so very long ago, I would still read even if I worked in front of people.

I worked in a library.

I haven't done that. Since I am a teacher, I have to be walking from one place to another, monitoring the kids, planning classes and so on, so I have no time for reading at work.

I am staying in my employer's house. I'm a full time domestic helper. This is simply saying I read at work. ^_^

Oh yes I have. For the past few years, I've gotten to have some down time during winter. It was different from reading at home. I found this book a little boring, but it became interesting all of a sudden at work.
Besides that, I'm just a busy bee trying to get things done as quickly as I can.
