I read at my desk most lunchtimes. A couple of other people in the office do as well. I talk all day in my job so this half hour of silence is pure bliss and much needed!

I definitely do. Although, I work for myself (and usually very long hours) so reading is my way of having a bit of a break. It actually helps me be more productive and alert when I'm working 12-16 hour days. Last winter when it was really slow, I began watching Netflix instead of reading and my brain turned to mush! Now with reading I get to sit down with a coffee and relax but also keep my mind stimulated!

I read at work when I get some free time in between. But, I prefer to read sitting just for reading's sake.

I work in a warehouse and I always carry with me my favorite book “A tree grows in Brooklyn” and I always read it on my lunch break and it helps me. It takes my mind to another world. When Im stressed about anything I read and it calms me.

I used to read books in pdf format all the time at my last job. They looked pretty much as if I were reading a scientific paper from a distance. And I would rename the file so it doesn't show up as whatever book I was reading. Sneaky, yes. But I never got caught and I would only read during lunch time or close to home time.

I've never read anywhere but at home. I don't feel comfortable with people around. 😅

I have done it, but it was at a office job where I was left alone for hours on end and when no clients came in and there was absolutely nothing to do, I would read.
But, that was years ago. Now I'm a foreign language teacher and unless we're reading in class, I can't really whip out a book and tell my students to get on with something while I kick back. So, no. More's the pity!

I work night shift at a women's shelter and my main responsibility is answering the crisis line. We don't get many calls between midnight and 8 am so I have plenty of time for other activities. I read more in my first two months than I had in the two years prior. 😂

I used to love to read during my lunch hour... or sometimes even during my break if the book was that good.

I can't remember doing this in a very long while. I hate doing that because it spoils my reputation on the job.

I do it a lot! There is much "dead time" where I work because waiting is a natural part of the job I currently do. So I read a lot on my mobile. The colleagues daddle or surf the internet, I think. For me, it's very handy to use the mobile phone: I don't look different than the others and I have always more than one book at hand :D
The world is indeed full of peril and in it, there are many dark places.
But still, there is much that is fair. And though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief,
it still grows, perhaps, the greater.

Yeah, the boss won't like that. At work, you are supposed to work. Goofing off on the internet is the same thing, and the boss doesn't like that either.

I can't say I have read at work. I guess I could read a little during my lunch break, but it is rarely quiet enough, so I prefer to read at home, especially in bed before I sleep. It's a habit.

I used to do this all of the time when I had a free moment. Of course, I was an English teacher, so it wasn't shocking to find me with my head stuck in a book. :techie-studyinggray:
