Wow, you have some great choices! In order I think you should read:

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak...it started off a bit odd but I really got caught up in the story and characters. It is very real and you'll especially like it if you're interested in WWII/Holocaust stories.

Inkheart by Cornelia Funke...very exciting, you'll want to read the other two books in the series and you definitely should (the 3rd is my favorite)...it has magic, adventure, love, etc

The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman...another exciting story of adventure where you'll want to read the other two books in the series...I think Book 2 is my favorite...again, adventure, love, magic, evil

The Da Vinci code is great and fast-paced but may be too much for you. I love both Nick Hornby books, Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver, and The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood but I think you would appreciate them a lot more in 2-5 years.

If you're a girl, you will really like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, it was a good one. The 3 I suggested are a lot more meaningful and much faster paced though.

The Time Traveller's Wife by Audery Niffinegger is great, but may be too long. You might like things such as Sisterhood of the Travelling pants and Bridget Jones.

On another note, I'm outraged that crap such as Twilight is on a recommended reading list! It's so badly written...

I read The Time Traveler's Wife and enjoyed it very much too. I recommend it.

[Moderation note: Thread moved to general section because all new threads started in the "Reviews, Recommendations and Warnings" section must be limited to one book or series per thread, as stated by the forum rules for that section.]

Thanks,
Scott

Posted: Sat Jun 20, 2009 1:47 pm Post subject: I've got a great book for you to read

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conscience of a Dead Killer: Although the title suggests morbid death and carnage, there really is none. It hosts no adult situations or even profanity. It even has a happy ending.

The story: A killer's ghost is forced to go back in time and witness the lives of his victims with a conscience, until he meets an FBI agent who can see him where no one else can.

It can be found on Amazon or ordered through about a million other places.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell was really interesting. It makes you look at the world differently. It's pretty short and easy as well.

Ender's Game is a great science fiction novel. It's also quite easy to read and moves fast.

Life of Pi is one of my favorite books of all time, but it is a slow read at the beginning. It picks up later once Pi is at sea though.

Either The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, I Wanna be Your Joey Ramone by Stephanie Kuehnert, or Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld.

I'm a coming-of-age buff and these are some really solid ones. Seriously consider them because they're fabulous! The first is about a young boy in high school, the second is about a girl in the punk rock scene, and the third is about a girl going to a boarding school for high school. Amazing!

War of the Worlds. H.G. Wells has become a little dated but he is still great. Just remember that it was written in the early 1900s. Still in all the action and human drama are every bit as real today as the day it was published.

I love the selection.
I agree with recommending The Book Thief.
But for your age I think the Maximum Ride series is good. I enjoyed them. In my opinion much better than twilight. But, that's just my opinion.
The Picture of Dorian Gray is an interesting story line but a little weird. But if you are looking for something a little different/ New I would reccommend it.
Also do the books you read have to be off that particular list?
