What religions do you enjoy reading about?

Post by Tori_Teacup »

Does anyone else enjoy reading books about different religions/beliefs? What is your favorite religion to study and why? I love reading about old witchcraft because the wonder of it fascinates me and I want to understand the beliefs and misunderstandings that caused the witch trials and all of the anger and fear of the people.

Well, as it happens, I'm Christian, so that tends to be the religion that I read about. I've studied various religions over the years, but these days, I focus on the spiritual tradition that has given me a home.

I'm not big into reading about religions per se but I find Judaism endlessly fascinating ... the history, the traditions and most of all the emphasis on intellectual questioning.

I love reading books about different religions and beliefs. I love reading about all of them. I don't think I have a favorite.

I enjoy reading books that are not biased towards a specific religion. I particularly love analyzing the comparisons of what is similar among different religions and what is different. For example, most religions have a creation story.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

I enjoy reading books about spirituality and metaphysics. I happen to have a collection of about two dozen books on Buddhism alone, but I find almost all of them interesting enough.

I had a relative who attempted to search for a Catholic book for me to read. I was in the middle of becoming Catholic and it seemed logical to read such a book. While my relative was searching for Catholic books for me to read, he strictly noted that a Catholic book must be written by a Catholic. He would simply review the books by turning to the "About the Author" page and determining if it was an appropriate book.

I am honestly not sure the reason he reviews the books this way. I read whatever Catholic books he gave me and I never questioned him since.

I am a confirmed Catholic but cannot find any decent books on Catholicism. The weird part is that I have a collection of Joyce Meyer books, who is born-again!

I'm not a big fan of organized religion but Tamar Myers's Amish and Mennonite observations are probably my favorites.

I mostly enjoy reading books about my own religion, Christianity, just to be more knowledgeable & because I enjoy it. I really like reading books about all religions and the differences as well though. I find it interesting to see what other beliefs are out there and why they believe what they do.

I enjoy learning about various religions. I enjoy seeing the similarities and differences between the different organized faiths.

I would like to read a book and learn more about the Amish. No Amish romance novels tho, and no books that are super long.

I believe Judaism is the most misunderstood religion of all time. Its depth and philosophy are incredible, yet it's mainly known for Manischewitz (which most Jews do not drink btw. It's gross). I don't have much interest in reading about other religions seeing as two of the main ones are just watered-down misconstrued versions of Judaism.

I understand that feeling, yet I'm somewhat perplexed by it. Religion is Truth so there is only one religion. It may be interesting to read about other religions, but it is akin to reading about Greek Mythology.
