I am reading a wonderful book by Katherine Smyth: All the Lives We Ever Lived: Seeking Solace in Virginia Woolf. As Woolf is among my most beloved authors, the combination of Smyth’s memoirs with insights from Woolf’s novels is perfect for me.

Smyth’s prose is lyrical and flows beautifully, taking the reader along down the stream of memory with ease. She has studied Woolf’s novels seriously and is able to incorporate and relate quotes from them as she details her parents’ marriage, her father’s descent into alcoholism and poor health, and her mother’s estrangement from her husband and even from her daughter, Smyth.

If you are a reader who enjoys memoirs and who is familiar with the novels of Virginia Woolf, this is one of the best books available for you. Published in 2019, you may find it difficult to get a copy from your local public library without a wait. But it’s worth the wait to read this. I’m trying very hard not to purchase any books, as I have a huge library already, but I may have to break down and buy this one. There are simply so many sentences that strike me and the urge to underline is growing stronger the further into the book I read.

I give this wonderful memoir 5 stars out of a possible 5.

I am more or less in between books at the moment. I have a few books in my personal library to choose from, I'm just not sure yet... I'm debating between An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard or The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.

Sadly I know nothing about either book. Are they mysteries or novels about women? Thanks!

Hi! I am currently reading The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. Have any of you read it before? I'm having a hard time getting through it. I just can't relate to the characters and the romance is so typical YA it's horrid. The writing doesn't stand out either... I kinda want to stop, but I've spent money on it. Should I continue?
