Icon Learned a skill because of a book?

Post by braver »

After reading the first few books in the Elm Creek Quilts series, I knew that I wanted to learn how to quilt. It took me a few years to find the time (and courage) to take a class, but 6 years later, I've made several quilts and I'm just as in love with quilting as I was when I first started! And now that I am a quilter myself, I get another level of enjoyment out of reading these books.

Has anyone else been similarly inspired by a book?

Totally! I starting scrabbooking after a character in one of the books I read years ago starting doing the same!

When I was younger I started a book of lists because one of the characters in a book series I read used to do that. I think it was Junie B. Jones but I'm not quite sure. :P

I don't know if this is really a skill, but I learned not to be too quick to judge people because you don't know what they're going through. I feel like all readers learn this, because we spend so much time in other people's heads and perspectives.

I have, thanks to books, taught myself how to cook, create gift baskets, create gift jars, save money, etc.

I learned from reading The Briar King by Greg Keyes that you can easily solve a labyrinth by keeping one hand on the wall at all times. That's about the only thing that comes to my mind.

I started learning archery because of Katniss, and I know several others who have done the same.
