Paperback every time. I'd make an exception for a reference book that I was going to use repeatedly or something special.

Oh my goodness, I forgot about people who won't read ebooks. Sometimes I do wonder whether they are doing my health any good although I make a point of not having one with a back light. I think this helps especially if reading late at night.

Paperback is easier for me, but I would choose hardcover because I tend to rip books easily when I put them in my backpack.

In this as in all too many other either/or questions, the answer really is : "it depends on the context". I like hardcovers for durability, I like paperbacks for ease of transit. I will mark up a paperback, but not a hardback. And sometimes, I just don't have a choice. A lot of my readings come from the late 1800's or academic texts which don't have a paperback equivalent, and then there are some books which are only published in paperback.

Definitely paperback. Yes they get worn and bent over time but that just shows how good the book is!

Paperback for most books.

Hardcover for my favorite ones. In my mind, those books deserve a hardcover because I want to make them more special in my shelves, lol!

Paperback. I've always found hard covers uncomfortable to hold, and always end up taking off the dust jacket and it usually ends up being misplaced. Also, if you've ever fallen asleep holding a hard cover above you... it's painful when it hits you in the face. Paperbacks are much safer, and easier to carry around with you in my opinion. :)

I like both, for me hard backs are easier to organize and have standing on a shelf; while paperbacks are easier to read while holding in your hands instead of on something.

Hardcover, hands down. They're able to take a beating. My method is to take the dust cover off so if there's any damage down, it can hide behind the dust jacket and still look brand new. I know a well-worn book means its been thoroughly enjoyed, but I feel people take it to the next level and trash the poor book. Nothing makes me shiver more than falling pages. :crying-yellow:

Well, it depends: for a fresh new book I'd prefer to have paperback - it's easier to leaf through and shove into your purse. For an old favorite, I'd like a sturdy hardback that won't get dinged up too easily or fall apart when I read it again and again.
