I like to read lying down so if I doze off, the hardcover book might be a bit uncomfortable to sleep on. I also like to carry my books around a bit so hardcovers a bit heavy to carry. I tend to prefer paperbacks for these reasons.

Paperback, hardcover, Kindle or iBook –- anything I can lay my hands on is good. The medium is not the message (sorry, McLuhan), the message is the message. We're very lucky nowadays, in that so many books are available to us, in one form or another.

It depends on whether I'm just looking for a reading copy or if it is one I plan to keep and read again. Overall, I definitely prefer reading actual books to kindle or iBooks.

I've never thought about it before. I just buy books I like. Paperbacks are lighter and easier to carry and cheaper too but hardcovers give me a feeling of solidity and dependability. It's too hard for me to choose only one out of the two.

I prefer hardback. They tend to weather better than paperback

I prefer hardcover. I like how they look on my bookshelves, and they are obviously more sturdy.

Here is my dilemma; I have always preferred the feel and ease of holding a paperback, BUT one of my life goals is to have a large library to be proud of when I die (Preferably not for at least another 50 years). So in order to do that I want my books to hold up and stay nice for as long as possible, despite repeat readings. This is much easier to do with hardcover so I usually end up buying hardcover when I can.

I find that paperbacks are lighter and easier to handle whilst hardcovers are thicker and weightier. The paperback would be my first choice.

Paperback for fiction works best for me.

Nonfiction books which I may come back to a lot would be better in hardcover or leather. I have a leather Bible I use a lot and I would not be happy if it was hardcover or paperback. Its a shame all books can't have a leather cover. All worthy books that is.

I choose paperback, they are comfortable and I seem to read them more quickly. But I have to admit harcovers look better.

Although hardbacks are that little more hardwearing I do find them harder to carry around and read. If I can I go for paperback and try to keep series in all the same format.

Anything, really! It does not matter to me as long as the book is engaging. Well, sometimes I love to read lying on my back. It is then I find the hardcover books..uh..heavy.

I prefer whichever one the library has on file. Including audiobooks.
