I prefer paperbacks, because I feel like I can never open the hardbacks enough to actually see the pages towards the middle. Plus, paperbacks are usually smaller and can fit in my purse!

Aesthetically, hardcover is my favourite, but I prefer paperbacks because they're easier to hold and less expensive.

Hardcover! It is practical and looks pretty, too.

I do not really care, I even inherited a couple of old books that have lost their covers! The majority of my books are paperback though.

I would say I am choosy that way. There are books which I feel are only for one time quick read so for those I prefer my kindle. For books which I feel are a must read, I purchase paperbacks but I always get hardcover for classics and books which are highly rated.

Doesn't matter, anyway I can get the book. If I can only find hardcover or get a super deal on a hardcover, I'll go for it. If I have a choice, paperback is usually less expensive and serves my purposes well, so I'll go with that over hardcover. But if I want to study the book over and over and add it to my library of 2500 volumes, I go for the hardcover.

I love the look of hardbacks because when they're all lined up on a shelf it reminds me of old libraries which make them seem whimsical. I also love that they offer some stability and when you get to the middle of them they lay open in your lap so nicely. However paperbacks are great because you can carry more at a time and obviously the price difference is crazy. But I definitely agree that if you're getting a series they must all either be paper back or hard backs because having them mixed up like that just doesn't look or feel right :lol2:

The main difference for me is the availability, I compare only in terms of that. If a book is available in both formats, I'd go with softcover as it is cheaper, however if the book is hardcover only, I would not miss the opportunity to buy it also! But both are enjoyable and are the same when it comes to practicality, in fact it is just the cover, I don't spend most of my time just with the cover! Sometimes I even have to repair a cover-less book by actually printing out the cover and repairing the broken book.

I used to prefer hardcover but after living on my own, moving a lot, and traveling more, I found a new strong love for the paperback. They are lighter, easier to hold while reading (usually), and are easier to pack!

Paperback all the way for me...
Until I find a book or series that I know I cannot live without, then I shell out the greenbacks for the hardcover collectible!

I like both, but paperbacks are much easier to handle and travel with.

I prefer paper any day, any time. Not that I dislike hardcovers, but I want to be able to squeeze in as many books as possible and I can't do that magic with a hardcover.

I prefer paperbacks which are relatively easier to hold and to carry around. I am not particularly fond of hardcovers but will buy them if it is the only version of the book available in the store. I also declare the dust jacket of a hardcover as a personal and mortal enemy of mine.

I have been exclusively reading on my Kindle for the past several years, but recently I picked up a paperback... it was an experience to even hold the book. The silky texture of the cover made me feel like I was doing something decadent. If I had unlimited space, hardbacks will always be my number 1 choice.
