But here, the candles give off their warm glow,
the same light that Shakespeare and Isaac Walton
wrote by,
the light that lit and shadowed the faces of history.
Billy Collins, Poet
Saling Alone Around the Room from the poem Osso Buco, page 50

ON THE SETTING SUN
by Sir Walter Scott {1783}
Those evening clouds, that setting ray,
And beauteous tints, serves to display
Their great Creator's praise;
Then let the short-lived thing call'd man,
Whose life's comprised within a span,
To him is homage raise.

We often praise the evening clouds,
And tints so gay and bold,
But seldom think upon our God,
Who tinged these clouds with gold.

For I have known them all already, known them all:
Have known the evenings, mornings, afternoons,
I have measured out my life with coffee spoons;
I know the voices dying with a dying fall
Beneath the music from a farther room.
So how should I presume?
--"The Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock", by TS Eliot.

Oh boy do I love me some Eliot.

The thing about growing up with Fred and George," said Ginny thoughtfully, "is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve.

“How do you spell 'love'?" - Piglet

Winnie the Pooh just has so many good quotes! It's hard to pick just one.

My other favorite is from Wicked (one of my favorite musicals).
“Are people born wicked? Or do they have wickedness thrust upon them?”
― Glinda Wicked the Musical
Ooooh, I like both of these; great choices! Winnie the Pooh does have several great quotes, but this is probably my all time favorite!

I've never seen the musical, but I read Wicked, and enjoyed it!

Quotes from the Kushiel Legacy series:
"Love as thou wilt"
"All knowledge is worth having"
"Let the warriors clamor after Gods of blood and thunder; love is hard, hard as steel and thrice as cold. It is inexorable as the tides and life and death alike will follow in its wake."
"Yes my Lord, but questions are dangerous, for they have answers."
"A little truth seasons a lie like salt."
"The pain of the flesh is naught to that of the heart."
"That which yields is not always weak."
"When Love cast me out, it was Cruelty that took pity on me."
“There are those who are awkward in the face of sorrow, fearing to say the wrong thing; to them, I say, there is no wrong in comfort, ever. A kind word, a consoling arm ... these things are ever welcome.”
“Pain obliterates everything else. In pain, there is only the eternal present.”
“Only insofar as you enjoy being sorry, my dear, which, while it is a considerable amount, occurs only after the fact, thus making it a singularly ineffective deterrent, yes?”
“Beauty is at its most poignant when the cold hand of Death holds poised to wither it imminently.”
“It is a human failing, to attribute the best of motives to those we know the least, and the worst to those we love best.”
“There is as much deception in noise as there is in silence”
“...not stories, but histories. For this too I learned, that a storyteller's tale may end, but history goes on always.”
“If I'm to be damned for what I've done, I'll be damned in full and not by halves.”
“It is a human failing, to attribute the best of motives to those we know the least, and the worst to those we love best.”
“How do you want to die, Admiral? We are D'Angeline. At the hand of numbers, or dreams?”
“Alas for we who are mortal, and are denied the luxury of dramatic license. We mus live, and go onward.”
"We are all these things [...]. Pride, desire, compassion, cleverness, belligerence, fruitfulness, loyalty...and guilt. But above it all stands love. And if we desire to be more than human, that is the star by which we must set our sights."
"And for a price, I will pretend absolutely nothing."
"It's the same questions we ask of our existence, and the answer is always the same. The mystery lies not in the question nor the answer, but in the asking and answering themselves, over and over again, and the end is engendered in the beginning."
"I have seen the impossible. I have seen great and terrible wonders, and I tell you, the world is a vaster and stranger place than ever I had reckoned."
"I seek words of such surpassing beauty that they might melt the hardest heart of stone."
"It is a dangerous thing to bring a dream to life....I have watched my deepest, dearest hopes take shape, and I am not entirely sure I like the shape they have taken."

Quotes from The Lost Years of Merlin series (T.A. Barron):
"And I came to understand, in a way I never had before, that books are truly the stuff of miracles. I even dared to dream that someday, somehow, I might surround myself with books from many times and many tongues.."

Quotes from the Study series (Maria V. Snyder):
"Yelena, you've driven me crazy. You've caused me considerable trouble and I've contemplated ending your life twice since I've known you." Valek's warm breath in my ear sent a shiver down my spine.
"But you’ve slipped under my skin, invaded my blood and seized my heart.”
“That sounds more like a poison than a person,” was all I could say. His confession had both shocked and thrilled me.
“Exactly,” Valek replied. “You have poisoned me."
~~~~
"Out of nowhere, Valek appeared before me, yelling in my ear, shaking my shoulders. Stupidly, belatedly, I realized he was the drunk. Who else but Valek could win a fight against four large men when armed only with a beer mug?"
---
"I didn't expect a knife, though. Is it the one missing from the kitchen?"
"Did Rand report it?" I felt betrayed. Why hadn't he just asked for it back?
"No. It just makes sense to keep track of large kitchen knives, so when one goes missing you're not surprised when someone attacks you with it."
"I balled my hands into tight fists to keep them from wrapping around Mr. I-Know-Everything's superior neck."
There are MANY more but one might get the picture.
