This is from Jodi Picoult's My Sister's Keeper. There are so many heart wrenching lines in this book and this is definitely my favorite.Why are terms of endearment always foods? Honey, cookie, sugar, pumpkin. It's not like caring about someone is enough to actually sustain you.

I wondered what happened when you offered yourself to someone, and they opened you, only to discover you were not the gift they expected and they had to smile and nod and say thank you all the same.
