But sometimes short chapters increase the pace of the novel and make it seem like you're flying through it!

Also, sometimes I want to read before bed but don't want to read a long chapter, so shorter ones are helpful, in that regard.

What I'm not a fan of are those books with short chapters where there is no connection between the chapters, or where it's not sequential if it is telling the story of something that happened or of a certain organization (like chapter 2 describing the founding of the organization, but ending with numerous loose threads, then three chapters that are completely unrelated - one about a financial crisis 15 years later, another about the impact of the organization's activities in modern times, and the other about a personal struggle between the CEO and characters who haven't been introduced yet, then chapter 6 goes back to the founding narrative again, as if there was no interruption... yes, I have read books like that, and it makes me want to close the book and put it in the "donations" box before finishing it). Yes, if the chapters are alternating between current and flashback, that's okay... but there needs to be a reason for the transition, you know? /end rant /
