I don't feel like a book starts getting long unless it's at least 700 pages. On the other hand, a shorter book can feel like an emotionally long book like Fran was saying. So long as the subject matter is interesting I will often pick a long book over a short book.

I like to read big books because it makes me feel like I didn't waste my money without being entertained for a least a few days. With that said if I am reading on my Ipad I won't buy books less than 1200 pages but on paper books I remember Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged was around 1,000 pages and it kept me busy for about a week. It also depends on how much I'm into the book because with Atlas Shrugged I spent some time in between chapters discussing the material with friends.

500+ is a big book for me.

I would say 600-700 pages is a big book. But it also depends on how large the font is.

Books like "Les Miserables" (the original manuscript) since it provides insight into the city and deters from the plot. I believe this is why the original version is about 1000 pages. So for me, it's a big book because it's not simply about the main characters actions and thoughts.

500+ pages is a big book in my opinion. Whether a book is big as in diverse or has a lot of themes I typically think of it being deep rather than big.

A book with at least 300 pages would be a 'Big book' in my opinion. Though it is not uncommon for a 500 page book to really grab my attention, putting it in that same category.

I would say between 500 to 800. I don't focus on the number of pages it's about how good the book is. 8)

700+ pages, probably. A lot of the stories I read in the last few years are derious garage door stoppers.

So we're talking at least an unabridged and illustrated War and Peace here?

For me, it's more about enjoyment. If I don't like reading a book, it seems big, regardless of the pages. On the other hand, I really lengthy book that grabs my attention always seems to end too quickly!

800 pages is an amount that I consider a large book.
