As long as there are vivid descriptions in the book and the author's mode of writing has me enraptured, I turn the book to a movie in my mind- from facial expressions to mode of movement and even tone of speech.

It depends on how it's written, but I don't necessarily picture a movie scene, but I picture roughly what the scene and characters looks like.

I do find sometimes with some characters that how I picture them looking, isn't always how they're described on the book. They're personality and how they act makes them look different to me in my head.

This is one reason why i love reading books so much. They paint pictures in my head of things that are out of this world or of places i haven't been to. But it depends if the book is written in a way that really opens up imagination, just like the last book i read which is The Elf Brief by Jordan David. It is very detailed, i could actually see the scenes in my head.

I think this is one advantage of books, they give you a glimpse of things if not bring you there or make you experience the things that are written in them.

I don't have a vivid imagination so I rarely see pictures when I'm reading but that doesn't take away the joy I get from reading the book

Yes, I do imagine the scenes when I read.

If I'm really engrossed in a book then it's almost like I am there in the room with the characters. Sometimes I only see parts of it or get a picture of one character butnI can always tell how much I enjoy a book by how often I'm walking beside the characters and taking part in the conversations.

The question does make sense. If the description in the book is good enough, then the pictures will begin forming in my mind and at times I allow myself to go take a walk in that other world.

You can visualize like your imagining things about the story like it is actually happening in real life, well everyone does that makes the writer more effective that he or she's able to reach out to the readers mind what the book written was all about.

Sometimes I see pictures and that's when I know the book is really great. Otherwise I just imagine what it could look like, but never really come up with clear images.

I almost always do. And if it ever happens that I am not visualising anything while reading, that simply means I am not liking the book enough. It has always been this way for me, so much so that I never even gave it a concious thought until much later. And when i did give a thought, I made a quick recollection and found that I have mental pictures for all books I have read. I sometimes even wonder if someone else reading the same book or the author himself/herself see the same pictures? Or how much do their versions differ from mine?

Books play out as movies in my head. So I won't quite see pictures, but I'll see movie scenes instead. It's as if I were the director for the book's movie adaptation. Maybe that's part of the reason why I'm usually disappointed by most movie adaptations.

Yes I do picture the characters while I read.
I always pictured Remus Lupin from Harry Potter to be handsome and was shocked when I saw his character portrayed in the movies.

I always have a visual of the scene and characters. That is why I don't enjoy seeing the movie from a book because character in the movie do not look like the characters in my head.
