I have never gotten rid of a book (and I never will -- ha!) but I can't stand when people toss books! Donate, donate, donate!

As long as a book isn't missing pages I would donate it. If the book is damaged there are always crafts you can do with them, like blackout poetry, drawing on it, folding the pages of the book to spell a word. Books can easily be cherished as a design element. Having a secret hide away compartment, or even making a purse with a hard cover book.

I always donate. I love the idea of giving back and helping others to share in the joy of reading. I've donated to the library or GoodWill, etc.

I would just donate them than toss them away. Books hold so many treasure inside them, they deserve to be shared. When you donate them other people could still benefit from them.

I used to take books to a used bookstore for credit to get other books. Otherwise I'd just donate them. Better that the books find a new home rather than being tossed.

I have accumulated a lot of books over the years. I have been an online book dealer, but don't do so much anymore. As I've moved around and had to declutter, many books have been donated. Books can be recycled too if they are no longer usable. Even if books are trash they don't belong in the trash, so they are sold, donated or recycled.
I have kindle for iPad, but really still prefer the tactile experience of reading an actual book.

The only time I would ever throw away a book is if it's literally falling apart, even then I sometimes repurpose it into a Pinterest craft. There are so many schools, libraries, and used book stores that would be more than happy to take your books. Some of the used book stores will even give you a store credit for your books so you can buy even more books!

Aaaaaaaaah! Never throw away a book, unless it is so bad no one should ever read it. Donate it to a school or library. Sell it at a garage sale. Give it to a friend. But never just throw it out!

Has anyone had this problem? Toss it? Donate it?
I bought 1800 books to sell on Amazon. The problem is that after buying all those books, I still only averaged selling about eight books a week. I couldn't afford rent on the space I was keeping them at and it turned out I had to figure out what to do. In this case I had no choice to donate them. What a waste to me.

Most of my books are electronic. But I will never imagine tossing out the collection I have of printed books. Once I was faced with this dilemma when there was simply not enough space in my home for bundles and bundles of a magazine I used to subscribe for since childhood. My parents wanted them out of the house (regretfully, though) but I was adamant that my childhood companion would not be thrown out! Then my dad donated them to the local library. I am forever against tossing a book out. Donate them or sell them to used-book shops- another person will enjoy the book.

I would always advocate donation rather than destruction, but sometimes, even libraries throw out books they just don't want. If they don't have shelf space, the books are damaged, or they can't sell it at their own book sale, what else can they do with it?
