Toss it or Donate it

Post by MMT0294 »

Before I bought my Kindle I bought a ton of books and lived in a small house. I struggled with tossing them since I had enjoyed most of them so much. I would often put them in a bag and weekly would drop them off at the local library.

Has anyone had this problem? Toss it? Donate it?

Yes. And now that I have a Kindle (with a lot of my favorites already downloaded), I have found it easier to put my physical books in the donate pile. I would never trash them unless they were missing pages because a partial book couldn't really benefit anyone. I still have held on to a few of my treasures though.

I think I would rather build a library first... I shudder at the thought of giving my essentials away. The ones I don't care for that much, I could hardly bat an eye. But I can't get rid of the shelves.

I keep my books, but donate books not to my taste.

I've had this dilemma...actually, I haven't. I would never toss out a book that had all of the pages and was intact. Even a taped up book deserves a chance at a new relationship with a reader. However, I still am building more of a library. I like reading with kindle, but to be honest, I love the feel of a book in my hands.

I pretty much keep all my books. The only time I threw a book away was after my cat decided it made for a great scratching toy, but I did a few craft projects with it first. If there is a book that does not tickle my fancy I will either resell it or donate it.

I keep all my books, but I will lend out my books to those I trust.

Books are donated if I'm getting rid of it. Some thing are keepers.

I only throw away books that are egregiously offensive. Aside from that, I often try to sell books on eBay without too much luck. There's also a half-price bookstore nearby, but they never offer anything impressive for my books.

In a broad sense, though, that's just for books I didn't enjoy. I cherish my collection of books that meant something to me at the time that I read them. I have them on shelves in every corner of my room. Actually I don't have an eReader, but I do have the Kindle computer app. So I can read something digitally if I must, but generally it's not my choice unless there's a cliffhanger between volumes and I can't get to the bookstore, or something like that. (Even I have to admit that Kindle comes in handy in that instance!!)

Donate 100%! After moving so many times in the last couple of years and now having an iPad, I have sold and donated some books I know I wouldn't read again. There are some I can't bring myself to part with though.

I have ever never had to throw away a book because as most people here have stated is their reasoning I wouldn't throw away a book unless it was beyond repair and just needed to go to it's final resting place.

I am currently in this same situation. After giving it away to some of my friends who like to read, I have arranged to donate the rest to a public school library. It's not that easy to part with them though - I sort of feel an attachment to most of them. Had to have a solid plan that will ensure that I am out of the house when they come over to pick them up :?

I keep as many books as I can, but those I didn't like or won't reread, I sell (to buy more books! :) ) or donate.

I keep my favorites (most of the time). All other books we generally sell to Half Price Books (where we have had amazing success) or to another local used bookstore.
