That's great that you were able to share this with your grandfather. I've always loved reading ever since I was little and I still rarely go anywhere w/out a book. I'm not sure where my love of books come from since neither of my parents were very big readers besides the occasional book here or there. My mom used to read me the same stories from the Golden Books at bed time so often that I was able to recite them to her by the time I was in kindergarten so they did instill reading in me at a young age. My parents always encouraged my reading although they stopped short of allowing me to read while eating at the table, that was family time! :)

I now have two little boys of my own. The youngest is just a baby so we don't do story time with him quite yet but either my husband or I read to my 3 year old each night. I'm hoping at least one of them ends up sharing my love of books.

@Immallia, I was lucky and blessed that everything came together for me to move home when I did. I'm glad something sparked in you that grew into a love of reading. I hope your children do as well, but either way with good parents, they will turn out alright.

My mom is reading to me!! As we sit out in the sun, having a drink, and loving life. :) Yeah, it's what we do. We read. Awesome day. Happy birthday mom!

My immediate family really didn't really read that much so I'm not sure where I got my addiction from. It was in my early teens that I got started in reading books and I just can't seem to put them down. I love to be lost in a story!

I never read with my family before. I like reading alone because it's like an escape from reality for me. But I believe reading as a family would be nice as well.

Nella, reading alone is cool too. I do that every night :). Bookowlie, no cake. But we had an awesome roast with mashed potatoes and corn fresh off the stalk. Delicious!

Having no cake is unacceptable. At least, you should have stuck a candle in the mashed potatoes.

I always had a passion for reading but this was mainly inspired by my father. He had an office full of books and he would select ones for me when I got older saying 'I read this at your age'. He suggested some of the books that went on to become my favourites. Thank you dad x

That's awesome, AvidReader8. My mom was so cool she not only read me a book on her birthday visit, but she also got me a copy of her favorite book, Term Limits by Vince Flynn. That's my mom, getting me presents on her birthday.:) Good thing I got her some really cool stuff too.:)

My mom is a big reader so we always had a ton of books around the house. I think that's really what got me into reading. Now all of my kids love to read. My husband, who never read, is even starting to read often. :)

I remember when I was little my aunt used to read aloud to me all the time! I think that influenced me a lot.
My mom loves to read, too! We share books all the time. My brother and dad never read! They have read Friday Night Lights and Lone Survivor and that's pretty much it haha.
