Audiobooks.com ~ Official Review by Rachaelamb1

Post by Rachaelamb1 »

[Following is an official OnlineBookClub.org review of "Audiobooks.com".]

Audiobooks.com is an audiobook service with a selection of over 60,000 titles. For a monthly membership fee you get one book credit. You also have the option to buy additional credits. You can choose to stream or download your audiobook to your phone, computer, tablet, etc. If you do not choose to download the book, then you will not have access to it if you cancel your subscription. They offer a free trial where you can get your first audiobook free. To sign up you have to give them your billing information but you are free to cancel your subscription at any time.

Signing up for Audiobooks.com was very simple. I had no problem setting up my account. I did have difficulty installing the Audiobooks App. I reside in a foreign country and the app is not available to me. Customer service told me I could request a full file download which would enable me to listen from my computer. After I sent my request, they told me they could not give me a full file download. This was a little frustrating, especially because I had wasted a lot of time picking out which book I wanted to download. Not to mention the disappointment in finding an audiobook I really want only to have my hopes of ever getting to listen to it, shattered. (I will survive).

On the plus side, I got to experience their customer service. I really liked that I could easily find their contact information. They did not refer me to the FAQ or make me have to call them. Rather, I was able to send them a quick email and just wait for their response, which is just the way I like it. Since I am not able to use the service, I cancelled my subscription. It was very quick and easy.

In comparison to Audible, I find Audiobooks.com to be a bit lacking. Their selection of audiobooks is much less than Audible's. This is not a big problem for people looking to buy the most popular or newest releases of books. For people like me, who are looking for lesser known titles, it makes a big difference. Even if Audiobooks.com was available to me where I live, I would pick Audible simply because I can get a larger selection of books and access to special discounts (for the same exact price).

My rating for Audiobooks.com is 3 out of 4 stars because they do not have anything that puts them ahead of their competition. In the case of prices, special offers, and book selection there really is not anything that makes them stand out. They are a good audiobook service but not the best.

Thanks for the review! I have been wondering what the difference is between these two audio book programs. I am glad to know that being outside of the US (is it US only??) might make it difficult for me to use this service. But it is cool that you got to deal with Customer Service and that they were helpful.

It is not US only. They are in Europe and a few other countries (can't remember which). They are not in Asia yet but they are working on that.

Well... good for Europe and those other places! I guess I will just have to wait a little longer to see if it comes to Japan before I can check it out for myself. 8)

Haha yeah I know, right? I think China and Japan are their main targets in Asia. I'm not even sure they will be getting it in Thailand. I prefer Audible anyway...although I was looking forward to a free audiobook!

You did a great job on the review. I didn't have any problems downloading the app, but I am not really a big fan of audio books. Otherwise, I didn't mind the service of Audible. I thought the app was easy to download and the books were easy to get too. It is a bummer that they are not available in foreign countries though. I can see how that would be a huge drawback.

Thanks! Listening to an audiobook isn't quite the same as reading it for yourself and I think I will always prefer reading. Since most of my reading is done from my phone, I do find a break from looking at a screen refreshing. I had no difficulty with Audible though. They are available where I live.

Thank you for the nice review. I am not a big fan of audio books either, so will pass anyway. 8)

Thanks for the review. I downloaded the app and started listening to my first book earlier today. Normally I can't stand to listen to audio books, but now that I have a new baby I am realizing how great it is to be able to clean, cook, and change diapers all while listening to my book. I really is a great choice for busy moms.

Thanks! It's great that you are able to find something that works well with a new baby! I pretty much gave up on reading when my daughter was first born.

Do I understand correctly that your subscription gets you one book per month? Is that what you mean by book credit? So essentially, I'm buying an audio book every month, with the option of buying another one if I choose?
