If there are only a handful of reviews and they are all glowing without having much in the way of explanation then I will have second thoughts about that particular book.

That instantly turned me away from it. Some of the best indie's I have read have no reviews at all or only one random review. I guess the easiest way to tell is search the other reviews that those glowing reviewers made. More times than not you will find that it's fake.
