Yes. On many occasions I have tried to read to go to sleep. Unfortunately usually the book is too good for me to put down and I read straight through.

I read books to AVOID going to sleep. Sometimes I stay up until 2AM to finish books. If I can't sleep, I'll pull out my Kindle and read something that relaxes the brain like Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

All them work. I said in another thread that after some time, when my eyes start drying up the words start getting fuzzy and mixed up and that kind of has a hypnotic effect in my brain, it works like Xanax, LOL.
And so I sleep.

Whenever I can't sleep I put on an audiobook, because I find that helps me sleep better than turning on my light, sitting up, and reading a hardcopy does. With an audiobook I can stay curled up, but it gives my mind something to focus on until I eventually fall asleep.

Yep! I get super tired when reading, I don't know why. If I am tired but just can't manage to fall asleep, I'll read.
It doesn't even have to be a book I lack interest in, LOL! :count-sheep-smiley:

It's actually the opposite for me. If I'm tired and don't want to sleep I'll stay up reading.

Yup! Do it all the time. Helps especially if it is a not so interesting book, so I won't want to stay up just a little bit longer to finish the next chapter. Works every time. I actually recommend it to many of my clients if they have trouble falling asleep.

I wouldn't be surprised if majority said yes. Depending on the type of book. reading in itself is a good way to wind down the mind and allow you to sleep more soundly.

Yeah, I have had those moments too. you know what is a good book to falls asleep to? Moby Dick. Tried to read that on the beach and my mom said I was asleep for at least and hour. funny thing is, I didn't sun burn...

I have never read a book to fall asleep. I actually find that if I read before I want to go to sleep, I have an even harder time getting to sleep. I get to enthralled in the book. I just don't want to finish reading until I am done with the story. But, if I do need to go to sleep, I will turn on a TV show or a Movie and that will usually knock me right out.

The only book I have intentionally read to fall asleep was the dictionary. Yes, really.

But honestly, if I'm reading a book before bed, there is almost a 0 percent chance of me going to bed at a decent time. I always manage to convince myself that THIS chapter will be the last chapter I'll read...up until the book ends at 5 in the morning. Since getting into college, I don't have the time or energy to stay up late reading books anymore, anyways.

Oh yes I have definitely done this lol. What sucks is almost any time I lay down no matter what I'm reading, I seem to fall asleep.
