YES! When I stay in hotels. I admit, I have an overactive imagination and I watch horror movies. A lot. So when I stay in hotels, all those hotel scenes in horror movies come back to haunt me. I end up reading to get my mind off of it and I have a peaceful night's sleep with my mind on the book.

Every night. In fact, that was the biggest reason to buy a backlit ereader - no lamp required!

I don't think that I've ever read a book specifically to go to sleep, but I often read to calm myself down, which can lead to a very restful night's sleep. I have noticed that non-fiction is more likely to induce drowsiness than a novel, however. I don't think this is because non-fiction is boring, but rather because there's no exciting plot to get your mind revved up.

I don't think I would be able to fall asleep reading a book. I need to be focused on falling asleep in order to actually do it :)

I could never read a book to fall asleep! Even textbooks aren't that soporific for me. If I intend to read something, I'll keep reading it. If it's a fiction book, I'll probably read it until I'm finished. Sure, I can get tired from reading small text or from reading non-fiction or scientific stuff but I've never done such a thing to go to sleep. There are usually too many thoughts in my head from reading the book that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep anyway.

Yes. I almost always read before sleeping. It always does the trick... Even if I end up falling asleep at 4 am.

I never read with the intention of falling asleep, but I often do. Last thing at night, usually in bed, is the only time I can find to read, and I'm usually so tired after working at my laptop for hours, that my eyes just refuse to stay open. This is annoying because it takes me ages to get through a book this way.

I have tried to read to fall asleep at times, but I have been betrayed by many a good book to where I am up until daybreak because it would not let me go.

Same. I've tried to read to help me sleep, but I end up just staying up all night because I get so into the book.

Not really. I concentrate too much when reading. But sometimes I might use it if I am stressed and I know I won't be able to sleep anyway because my mind is racing with so much other stuff. So I would read before bed as more of a distractor. Then I would go to sleep. Not because of.

Yes, especially when travelling. Something about certain hotels just creep me out. Possibly all the horror movies that take place in hotels. And also when my mind feels overwhelmed, I read to relax myself so that I can sleep.
