I was recommended The Girl in the Dragon Tattoo and could not get past the first two chapters. I even tried to start it again a few months later and still didn't like it.

I had many people recommend The Night Circus to me and I just couldn't get through it. I hated it. I thought it was so boring, it took forever to progress, and I really didn't like the style of how it was written. And I felt so bad about not liking it because so many people had read it and loved it, even my mom had loved it, and I just couldn't stand it.

I agree. I don't care for either author, with the exception of one book by Joan Didion - The Year of Magical Thinking.

I generally know to stay away from Oprah's book club recommendations! It's kinda funny, but as a generally rule -- with the original book suggestions, anyway -- I know that the books will be a tearjerker and sentimental with a strong lesson written into the text. Clearly, many people enjoy them, but I just feel that the author is trying too hard to pull on heartstrings, and I lose interest.

The moment they told me to read "The Fault In Our Stars" I regretted saying yes. Thank God, I didn't buy the book, but I still didn't like it. In spite of how "profound" it was, I felt it like was too unreal. I also remembered writing a story similar to that and showed it to a friend (who happened to be a girl). She said, "If you want this to be good, make it more realistic". I agree to this day.

All the time. This happened to me with The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Lovely Bones. I don't think they were bad books necessarily. I just don't think I was interested in reading those particular stories.

My teacher told me "read Animal Farm! You will love t, it is right up your ally!" But I hated it. It confused me and irritated me.

Divergent. I'm sorry but I hated it. I think it's very similar to other books I've read. Everyone has been telling me that it was the best book series but I found it extremely boring.

I didn't like a certain book that my best friend and two other friends loved. The Fault In Our Stars. They were relieved when I started it and didn't finish because I didn't like it. Then, they were able to talk about it all the times without worrying about spoilers.

I usually don't take unsolicited book recommendations. I have too many things I want to read already-- some popular choices, some maybe not. I've had some good and bad experiences with the suggestions I've asked for, but overwhelmingly positive.
