Do you dogear pages as a book marker?

Oh goodness, absolutely not. If I'm reading a book, I want the pages to look the same as when I first got it, for as long as possible. The only books I do sometimes dogear are textbooks, because they deserve some of my wrath haha

No, for children they dogear their books and that is obvious. But as an adult reader there is no need to dogear while we have markers or threads to mark pages already read or important parts.

I don't dog-ear pages, but I do write in my books. It's almost impossible for me to read without a pencil in my hand. Once my husband picked up a book I was reading and started laughing, actually roaring with laughter. He got a kick out of me writing to the author--names have been omitted to protect the guilty--things like "This is complete crap!" and "You are an idiot!"

I used to very occasionally when I was a kid, but I always hated doing it. I only ever did it when I didn't have anything to use as a bookmark, which was typically only when I was at home.

I spent a lot of time at my grandma's, though, and she would use anything from receipts to card board from the post office, so whenever I could, I usually just asked her.

Eventually I learned to just memorize the chapter and page number I left off on since I only read one book at a time

I used to when I was a kid but not usually anymore. Sometimes I will find myself doing it almost unconsciously and I have to remind myself that I do not need to mark my books like that.

I kept on doing it until my best friend, a librarian, told me why I shouldn’t. At first, I used bookmarks, but I kept on losing them. Now, I just memorize the page numbers. It is much, much easier than having to buy 17 bookmarks per book.

I could not bear to do this. Ever. Ever. I can't bear people writing in books either. I will use anything as a bookmark rather than do this e.g. socks, cell phones, pencils, a bit of fluff, etc.

I dog ear my books. Sorry! It's my guilty pleasure. I read since I was 5. My mother never buyed me a bookmark and she was the one who encouraged the dog earing. Even later, when I found out it was "bad", I kept doing. Bookmarks just fall all over the place. And when I'm rereading, I love to see the folding creases and remember when I was at the time and I stoped at that page. I don't do it with very old books with brittle pages, though. Those can break. I also wont do it if the book is not mine.

I do dogear pages, always have and always will. It makes it feel like my book that way! I do use a bookmark for borrowed books, I am not an animal! Part of the reason I like a real book is that I dogear.

Me too! I also like it because if I'm reareading a book I can see where I was before. I love my worn out books! I also treat borrowed books with more care. But I rarely borrow. I like to buy my own book and keep it hostage in my shelves.

I always have I have tried to get better since I went to lend a friend a book and saw their look of suppressed horror at all the creases. My remedy is to lay them down open on the page I'm reading. Not sure if that is actually better...

Sadly, yes. Many of my 'real' books are mostly collections of short stories (such as the Jane or William books) though, so I tend to dip in and out rather than read straight through and don't need to mark my place
