I used to. Then I discovered this mysterious and miraculous invention called the bookmark. Now I have about a hundred different kinds of bookmarks. You know the free ones you get at book fairs and shops.

I have dogeared pages in my textbooks or reference books, and I am ashamed for this. I don't do it anymore, instead use scrap of papers. For story books though I have never dogeared any, I always use bookmarks or just remember the page number.

I used to. But now I generally try to use a book mark of some sort to mark my progress and sticky notes to flag pages of interest (if needed).

Wow, most of the people here are totally against dog-earing.
I don't anymore (I used to all the time). I tend to always have a bus ticket handy that I can mark a page with. If I don't, I'll dog-ear, but this is rare.
However.
I do break spines on purpose. That sentence just made me sound like a sociopath to anyone who didn't know I was talking about books. But I find long books hard to read without a broken spine, and I prefer a book to look well-read than to be pristine.
Who needs friends when you can have daddy issues and a huge home library?

I don't tend to dog-ear pages. I have a ton of bookmarks. I don't think it is wrong but I have to say I would prefer to buy a book that is not dog-eared.

I always do. For some reason I hate using bookmarks and received many of them because people know I like to read but I never used them for very long. It frustrates me to have to carry something else along with the book however small it might be, sometimes they slide out of the book and I lose my page and for me it's an unnecessary extra.

I always use a bookmark. The only time I ever dogear the page is if there is an awesome quote on the page and I dont have a pen anywhere around but i want to keep reading and remember to underline it later. This is rare that I don't have a pen with me, but does happen occassionally. I definitely would never use dogearing as a way to bookmark my pages (instead of a bookmark) though!

I can't stand to dogear book pages, and it bothers me when someone else does. I've had to do it a few times, when I absolutely had no other way to save my page, but I didn't like it.

Great question! I hate to confess that I do so very occasionally, and I make sure they are only tiny dog ears. But it always makes me feel bad!

Yes, I read non-fiction almost exclusively, so I dog-ear pages to mark what I consider to be important content. I will also make invisible underlines on those pages using an inkless ball-point pen, so that the underlines are only noticeable when I hold the book up to the light at a certain angle or feel with my fingertip.

Heck no!

Even a piece of candy wrapper is better than damaging the pages. I find it irritating when the pages of my fave books are damaged.

MsLisa, you might try an elastic-style bookmark sometime! Even a good size ponytail holder, when looped around, would be easy to keep track of and can be put on your wrist while reading. Just a thought! :)

As for the original question, I never dog-ear; I use bookmarks and often with nonfiction will fold up scraps of paper or post-it notes to mark particular places.
