Do you read the last page first?

Post by Emmybuddy »

I always read the last page before I read the actual book, it helps me to read between the lines and spot clues I wouldn't normally see, do you guys do it too? Or am I just weird?

Hm, I have never done that before. That's an interesting thought though. :)

Always do that! I read the last page and if I find it good, ill read the book hopping that I forgot what the last page said and instead trusting my judgement that I let myself read something with a good ending.. I hate sad endings so I save myself the pain

Never. I enjoy the element of surprise and the journey of the book from beginning to end the first time I read it.

When I want to see the book with a keener eye for detail, I read the entire book over again for a second, or even third, time. It really helps bring out the smaller, seemingly insignificant, pieces of the story more for me.

I have to agree completely with Happily Candied. I can count on one hand how many times I have read the last page. If I do so, it always confuses me...especially in books that have twists with the characters, or if it is in a series...I just enjoy the ride of not knowing what the ending is. I also love finding the new details in each reread...sometimes it is almost like reading a new book. Usually the only time I *will* read the last page/s is if I am confused about the series reading order...it gives me an idea of where to place them

I always read the last sentence, not the full page. It's a habit that I can't seem to shake. I like doing it however, unless I reveal a spoiler.

I used to do that when I was a kid, but no longer. Now I prefer to enjoy the element of surprise and the journey itself.

I honestly have never read the last page first. I really enjoy trying to predict what will happen as the story progresses. Some of the outcomes are rather interesting, especially when the real ending comes to light. The only instance in which I would be okay with reading the last page would be a crime novel, otherwise I prefer to guess.

I dont, usually, but I have read last pages of some last books in series when I was younger to make sure all my favorite characters are alive. I can't tolerate when something happens to one of my favorite characters.

I have not. But had the experience of finding the last page missing in a second hand book!

No Never. I don't want to know anything in advance. I also never read the back cover or the insides of jackets for that same reason. If I hear from someone I trust that a book is good, I will get the book based on that alone. I don't want to know too much about the story in advance.

No way, that's just silly. The last page is the apogee of a your long-standing affair with the author, characters, and yourself. It's akin to signing the divorce papers before you've even married.

Last page first ... Good Lord no way - why would anyone do that?
That would be akin to flying home from your holidays so you could get on a plane and fly back

Yes if I become seriously invested in the book or I am anxious to know the plot/fate of the character.
