Not really. It depends on what book i have first. But at moments, i reread the book again once i have the whole series or the first book before it just so i can finally make sense of things.

Yes! It has often been the case where I could not find the first book of a series and as a result could not start reading the next books. But if a book can also be read as a standalone one in spite of being a part of a series, then I am okay with it. In case of these books, I have often read the second or third book first and then went back to read the previous ones.

Yes I always read books in chronological order. If I don't have the previous book, I wouldn't open the copy I have, I would wait, read another book thing I get the correct order of the book.

YES absolutely. If I find a great series I must immediately go back to the beginning and read them all in the correct order. The only time that it doesn't matter to me is if the series isn't that good.

I have to read the series books in order. Even if the review states that it would work as a stand alone I still look for the first of the series. I can't imagine reading something like The Dark Tower series out of order. It would have ruined it for me and left me even more confused since I hadn't read all of the other books the series references. I love a series where each installment builds on what came before because there's more opportunity for character and plot development. I don't think that would happen if read out of order.

I have read a one book out of order because I couldn't get my hand on the first book and I had a friend who insisted I read the series. I enjoyed the book but didn't like that I read the 2nd book first. I'm a stickler for reading books from book 1 on.

Of course. I wouldn't start reading a novel in the middle than go back to beginning once I reached the end.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist and prefer to read a series in the correct order. I was in a bookstore to buy a book by Robin Hobb and the cashier asked me if I'd read the series that preceded the book. I hadn't!! I bought the book, but didn't read it until I had read the others first.

Yes, Erasmus, nowadays authors have many recaps in their books, but I find it more of a reminder of a scene in the preceding books of the series.

My biggest issue when I first started reading was that I would go to places like Ollie’s or used book stores and buy books not knowing it was part of a series. Now, as an avid reader, if I see a good deal on a book I will buy it and then buy the rest of the books off line to go along with the series before I start to read them.

Not always. I read fifty shades darker before fifty shades of grey by El James

Yes, of course. I feel like you have to in order to fully grasp and understand the chronological order, structure, and plot of the series. I suppose there are some book series where the plots don't really blend all into one and you can read in whatever order you wish

Of course I do! Not doing so is like putting my brain in a blender! I get confused sometimes when reading books. I can’t imagine what’ll happen to me when I don’t read them in a chronological order.

For most series, I will definitely read them in order.

For others, it really doesn't matter. Nancy Drew books are basically stand alone stories, so I just read them as I get them regardless of the official order.
