Do you read books of a series in chronological order?

Yes. I am currently trying to collect all of Dragon of Pern books and I do not like how much I will know before I can fill in the gaps.

You absolutely have to....if you want a coherent story. Read whatever order you want, but if it's a series I'm genuinely interested in, I'll read them in order.

I sort of/kind of read certain books genres in timeline order.

Such as Star Wars. Used to read the Prequel tie in stuff then onward to stuff that took place before Episode IV like the Rogue One Catalyst and Lords of the Sith.

But for big series like Dune and Wheel of Time theyre all in timeline order pretty much with a few exceptions like newer stuff like Paul of Dune and Winds of Dune which I backtrack a little bit for the heck of it the I go back into the regular main Dune books.

I usually don't read many books that are in a series, I prefer stand alone books. And if I read book series I prefer to read in the chronological order so that I can understand it easily.

If the books are connected then yes. If they’re pretty much stand-alone novels it isn’t as important, but I still prefer to read them in order if they have the same characters.

I prefer to read books in series order because the plot twists make a lot more sense if you know and understand the characters. I have occasionally read one out of sequence, but do not find it a very satisfying experience.

Definitely! Unless for some reason I start on a book in the middle, then I read summaries of the ones prior and start there

Yes, I agree I would not be able to read a book series out of order. The only time Is do this is if they are stand alone books with completely different characters.

I used to read series out of order because my mum used to buy me kinda random books and I often ended up having only book 2, 4, 7 and 12 or something like that. And in my teenage years, I didn´t really care, I just read whatever book I met. I was also used to it because our local library was small and usually didn´t have ell the books in the series. Sometimes it was weird, but mostly fine. Many series for children don´t even need to be read in order I think.
