I usually don't listen to music when I read. Although background music could actually help me get into the mood of the book, I just can't concentrate while listening to music while reading at the same time.
Usually, this happens:
I'm reading a book with my favourite song on. Soon, my mind starts focusing on the lyrics of the song and I'm just blindly staring at the words. Then, I start humming along with the song. After a while, I turn off the music and flip back to the first page to reread the book so that I can actually understand what's going on.

I can't concentrate in my reading if there's a song I like playing in the background, I would often stop reading and start singing, I rather be in silence

When I was younger I would listen to just whatever music I had on my Ipod at the time. Now that I am older I tend to just like some silence. Or I will just read with the window open to listen to things outside.

I do not listen to music while reading , it make me hard to focus on the book story.
However, sometimes I put on some piano music in the background at the a very low volume

I do most of the time! It depends more on what type of reading it is but for the most part, I do. I find it helps me concentrate personally.

That can describe me too. I just cannot focus when there's music in the background :D

Whenever I want white noise type music in the background, I always go back to Leonard Cohen. He is great, don't get me wrong, but soooooo easy to ignore. I've actually been listening to him for the last two weeks straight and been very productive because of it.
If it is silent, I find myself getting distracted by stupid sounds. "What was that!!!... oh, just the fridge making ice again..." that sort of thing.

Some days, I can read while listening to music. Most of the time, I'd rather not even though I'm looking for some sort of sound while reading. It seems to be more of a distraction than an aid.

I tend to put on music as more of a background neutraliser. If I have music on that distracts from whatever else is going on around me. That being said, when reading, it needs to be instrumental. If there are lyrics, they tend to distract me.

I don't like to have any music on while I'm reading. I'd much rather have silence because it is easier for me to become immersed in the story. If I have music on it tends to distract me.

Absolute silence... Because, I need to make up sounds in my head, as much as I visualize.
