Do you listen to music while you read?

Post by toddwiese »

I need to have ambient music on if I want music in the background. Otherwise I need complete silence. What's your favorite music to accompany your reading. I even find the jazz music at Starbucks annoying.

I do. I prefer classical music or something without lyrics. And you're right, anything too loud can be distracting. However, I do a lot of reading in public places and I find that a pair of headphones and music is invaluable to my reading experience.

No. I prefer silence while I read.

It depends on my mood. There are times that I like to listen to classical music while reading but there are also times when it is better to read in silence.

No. I usually do not. I enjoy reading more when it is just me and my book. If I did listen it would probably be classical in the background.

No, if I have music on while I am reading I can get easily distracted. On the other hand, if I am already completly focused on a book (which tends to happen) I would end up zoning out the music anyway and not even hear it. Either way its not really necessary for me to listen to music while I read.

I listen to music all day long. When I read though, I usually turn it off.

Never crossed my mind to have music on while I read, but I may give it try to see if I like it. Classical music and a good book sounds like a great combination. Thanks for the idea!

Occasionally if the silence is giving way to my thoughts, I will turn some classical music on.

To be honest, my reading time is my quiet time. I have tried to read while my boyfriend watches tv but there is nothing better then grabbing a blanket and curling up to a good book. I like how you can get lost in a book. The music is an unnecessary distraction. I can do classical in the background but I do prefer silence. Sometimes I even go in the quiet car in the train to just get lost in my book and forget about the real world for awhile!

I will listen to music if I'm reading in public, or if children are still up at home. Otherwise, no music. Also, no words in the music, only classic easy going music.

I do listen to music while I read. I also listen to tv, if it is a show or movie that I have seen before. I like the background noise, and don't want to be distracted trying to watch a new show and read a new book.

I prefer not to, but I can listen to music while reading because eventually I get so caught up in the book I don't hear the music anymore.
There are only two series I couldn't NOT listen to specific songs while reading: The Uglies series as well as Twilight series...for some odd reason I couldn't read it without listening to these specific songs. Something about these songs connected me to the book I guess.

The Uglies- Poker Face by Lady Gaga (There was another song but I forgot which it was.)
Twilight- The Secret Handshake- Too Young (I get goosebumps every time i listen to it.) and Midnight Movie (Specifically for the second book.) ANDDDDDDD Game Girl, acoustic version.
