Audiobooks or the real thing?

Post by samuyama »

I'm a fan of reading a book in my hands, but for the past couple years I've been exclusively audiobooks for the convenience in the car. What do you guys like?

 I'm too easily distracted driving, I'll listen to the news briefly, sometimes music but can only put my head in one place when I drive...if you saw the traffic and road rage in this area you'd understand. I also don't listen so good, I'd rather read the book myself, besides...somebody reading to me would get in the way of the voices in my head bwahahahaha

I like reading usually but in the car I love to listen to a story of lecture. I believe it makes the time go buy much fast on the long car trips.

I travel a lot for my job, so I definitely am grateful for audiobooks, but if I am at the house or not the one driving, I prefer a book in my hand.

Traditional. I read very quickly, and the times that I've tried listening to an audiobook I've been impatient with the pace, knowing that if I were reading the book myself then I'd be much farther along already!

The real thing! I really wanted to like audiobooks! I thought it would be nice to listen to them in the car or while working out. But it just doesn't work for me, I just can't stay focused on the book, and the pace is just too slow for me.

M-Allmon, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with that reaction!

I was really addicted to audio books for the longest time. I had a book going in one device or another for years, so much so, I got my brother addicted as well. The pleasure of holding a book and hearing the turn of a page brought me back. I still listen to audio books, they help me fall asleep. There's just no lasting substitute for the real thing.

I can't stand audio books because the way the narrator says things sounds nothing like how I hear it in my head.

I've found some audiobooks that I really enjoyed! But if the narrators voice doesn't fit well with the writing...there's just no way I can get past it.

I love going on long bike rides when it is nice out and listening to an audio book. I do still prefer to read an actual book but its nice to be out and about also.
