There have been times when I've had about four or five books in progress at once, especially during my college days, when I read different books for different classes or research projects, and maybe a book for pleasure. There was a time when I routinely had at least three books in progress at once: one for a class, one for a book club or for pleasure, and one for work.

I often read multiple books at once, but I spread out the entire process over months. I don't know how I am able to keep track of what I am reading, but reading multiple books seems to work for me. Generally speaking, there are 3 or 4 books being pecked away at over time.

I also write multiple books at once, which is probably pretty odd. Seems to work for me though, so...

I have been known to have two books going at the same time. They are usually very different for two different times of day or when I'm in different moods.

One at a time, always. I feel disloyal to the book I am reading otherwise! :D

I usually only read one book at a time, but there are situations where I will read 2 at a time (like when I was in school and had to read some for class but i also wanted to read some for pleasure). I do prefer reading one at a time though because it helps me focus on all that I am learning in that one book.

I read at least three books at one time. I keep one on my nightstand and one in my purse and another one in the car. I always have something to do when I am waiting around.

I could never read more than one book at a time - I don't know how anyone could! I get too into a book.

Hm, mostly I read one book at a time.

But if the book is boring, getting boring, or I have another book which I want to read even if the first book is interesting... then I read two books at a time.

I remember that happening a few times in the past.

Oh yeah! On average I'll read maybe 3 or 4 books at once. I try to keep it down to one fiction at a time so I don't confuse the stories, but nonfiction, I go wild.

I usually read only one book at a time. I can understand how others read more if the genre is different. I compare it to my reading a newspaper every day. What I can't imagine is reading two fiction books at the same time. How do you all do it?

I hate this about myself, but I simply cannot read more than one book at a time. Whenever I pick up a book I like I instantly envelop myself in it, and for the most part, lose focus if I pick up another book. I may start forgetting little details or even pivotal plot points if I get too distracted while switching between books. Sometimes writing notes as I read and referring back to them later helps, but I really prefer to just focus on one story at a time.

I tend to stick to one book at a time, it's easier to focus on and give all my attention to.

I only ever read one book at a time because I like to get fully immersed in it. I feel if I am reading two different stories, it requires more conscious focus instead of allowing me to get lost.

I can read about 3 books at once though, I prefer to only read one so that I don't get the different books mixed up
