I completely know what you mean, I do the same exact thing. I really can't help it, once you get to a certain point in a book you can't not bend it a little.

I usually keep my books in a tip-top condition. While reading I hold the book with one hand supporting the book at the back, with my thumb in the center of the book in-between the pages..

I always do it near the beginning and near the end, where one side of the book is really thin. I feel like I have to curve it to see the opposite page properly! 8)

I hold the book with two hands. Also, when I hold it with one hand still I don't bend the book.

When they are new, I try not to bind them, but it is extremely difficult this way. So after a while of torment, I fold them so that I can normally read without having to twist my back and eyes. If the books are in paper form.

I have an habit of bending the book, however, I am trying to break off of that habit. It makes my book tear faster.

I used to fold the book in one hand but I was asked to stop doing that to a book. I read books online now so It is my phone I hold on my left hand or place it upright on the table with something to support the phone.

I hold my books with two hands when I am sitting and with only one hand splaying the pages if I am laying on my stomach to read.

Scott wrote: 24 Jan 2007, 09:45 Okay, this question might sound silly, but I'm serious.

How do you hold your books when you read? When I was a kid, I used to bend them back like I do to a newspaper. However that ruined the binding of the books and permanently deformed them. Nowadays, I take care of my books when reading. Usually, I even hold them with two hands.

What about you? How do you hold your book? Do you try not to damage them at all?
No bending the cover back! It breaks the spine. I'm more of a librarian-style holder. I hold it with one hand and can easily turn it outward to show others what's on the page.

I have always held my books with both hands and read while leaning towards the books.

I avoid spine-cracking at all costs. I'll use both hands if I can, but usually I need to do it one-handed to keep the other hand free to pet the cat :lol2:

I prefer to hold my book with my right hand and have it propped up on my stomach. But sometimes I will hold the book with both hands, that way I can see clearly and keep a firm grip on it so it doesn't fall if and when I fall asleep.

Usually I like to lie on my stomach and prop the book up with something. While reading I also try to not to damage it, but I think that is what everybody does.
